Hungary’s first city welcomes visitors in festive decorations during Advent

On november 29, the Esztergom Advent Fair will open its doors on Széchenyi Square, where Hungary’s first city’s visitors will be welcomed with family programs, Christmas concerts, a craft fairs and a wide gastronomic offers.

At the Advent Fair in Esztergom, around 25 craftsmans will be making Christmas decorations, ceramics, jewelry, textile products, cosmetics, cakes and other delicacies, while in the nearly 10 gastronomic points, you will find a lot of things, such as hand-made hamburgers, scones, baked sausages, trumpet cakes, and of course mulled wine, the punch and bombardino cannot be left behind. What’s more, just like last year, the Esztergom Market joins the Advent membership this year, the celebrating public is welcomed with handcrafted products, local delicacies, hot drinks, freshly baked food, special surprises and live music every Advent Saturday.

The nearly half thousand square meters artificial ice rink in the middle of Széchenyi tér awaits ice sports fans until January 19, which will be opened on November 29 with the ice dance performance of the Pavuk Figure Skating School, but in addition, around 30 Advent programs will be prepared during the four Advent weekends.

Traditionally a special and unique Advent performance opens the Advent celebration and waiting period in Esztergom. The Esztergom Angel Game will be held for the third time on November 30, modeled on the Christkindlmarkt in Augsburg, with brass players, choirs and soloists. City visitors are invited to a special interactive walk under the title “Living history – Babits’ Christmas”, during which the past Christmas memories of Mihály Babits and his wife Sophie Török come to life in the most beautiful locations of Esztergom.

During the holiday weekends, much more free concerts and performances are able be visited, heard and seen on the stage set up on Széchenyi Square. Among others, the Csillangó Meseműhely, Kuna Vali és Testvérei, Réka Mihályi, Fruzsina Kovácsovics, Operett-Musical Voices Company, Late Beggars, Hungarian Folklore Theater, Napfonat orchestra, Kiskalász orchestra, Alma ensemble, Duka Jazz Session, Tibor Kerle and Hanna will perform, among others. Local school students and kindergarteners are also preparing a show. What’s more, on December 6, Santa Claus and his krampus will appear in the town’s main square to treat the children with a surprise show and gifts.

This year, in addition to the usual spectacular outdoor installations and string lights surrounding the city center, the organizers will also hold an exhibition in the House of Relations, within the framework of which the nature photography contest announced by the Municipality of Esztergom County and organized by Visit Esztergom Details from the works of the participants of the photo competition “10 Miracles in Esztergom” will be presented between November 28 and December 22.

In addition to the Esztergom Advent Fair, the city awaits its visitors with numerous family and cultural programs, concerts, and a lot of surprises during this year’s Advent season! Esztergom is a must-see even in winter!
