PROGRAMMES

DANUBE MUSEUM

Location: Kölcsey utca 2.

It can be visited: between 18:00 and 24:00

18:00 Csillangó fairy tale workshop: 12 Dancing Princesses – a folk tale seasoned with folk music, dance and song.

18.45 On the City Wall from here and beyond – a virtual local history walk, at the locations of the 185-year-old flood memorial boards in Esztergom. Walking guide: Anno Esztergom/Attila Sárosi, local history researcher.

A thematic local history walk, which, in connection with the 185-year-old (1838) flood memorial boards, provides an insight into the lesser-known local history and past of Esztergom, as well as the history of its floods. On March 13, 1838, i.e. 185 years ago, a significant flood peaked in the city, which is evidenced by numerous memorial plaques. Many of the memorial plaques are outside the magic circle of the classic Esztergom tourist routes and attractions, although a walk leading there or a little observation can still bring new things and surprises. We will enjoy these during the walk, so it will include a chapel, aggonian house, poorhouse, Johannite church, a chapel converted into a residential building, Szent Vendel square, the Jewish quarter and synagogue of the King’s Town, Buda Gate and many, many more “overlooked” local historical treasures. And, if the flood that peaked 10 years ago (2013) and 185 years ago is here, we will also highlight the current viewpoints and places of creation of Sándor Beszédes’ flood pictures (1876).
