In the Esztergom Castle, we can take part in an exciting journey through time, where we can wander among the values left behind by centuries. Castle Hill and the Royal Castle have played an important role in the history of Hungarians since the 10th century, after Prince Géza chose the hill above the Danube, which is rich in natural features, as his place of residence. On the place of the burned Palace owned by our first king, Saint Stephen, who was born and crowned in Esztergom, King Béla III laid the foundations of the palace complex that is still known today. There are even walls from the time of Saint Stephen.
Thanks to the reconstruction works of the past years, it was possible to save invaluable cultural value and present many historical spaces. For example, you can walk over 2,000-year-old archaeological layers through a glass floor. The castle chapel, also known as the pearl of the palace, shows traces of the introduction of Gothic age. The fresco details with lions emphasized the victorious power of the king. The panorama from the White Tower is breathtaking, and in clear weather you can also admire the surrounding mountains.

TIP

The children can take part in a “Poke game”, and the castle’s lion, Theo, will help them on an adventurous tour of the museum. Tickets for the exciting game can be exchanged at the box office.
