Can we give you some February travel tips suitable for physical and mental recharge?
Take a walk along the Little Danube promenade surrounded by sycamore trees, then visit Primates Island, where you will find the Palkovics bench, the wonderful gem of Esztergom, on the bank of the Danube, away from the noise of the city. The location is especially visited by lovers at sunset, but it is also worth stopping and sitting here for a while during the day.
The Esztergom Basilica is also waiting for you in February, and after you already have seen Hungary’s largest religious building, take a look at the statue entitled The Coronation of Saint Stephen, where a wonderful panorama opens up to you with the Danube and the Mária Valéria Bridge located on it. Don’t forget, you can take very good selfies here for your social media pages.
Would it be nice to visit a museum? The MNM Esztergom Castle Museum is also open in February! In Hungary’s oldest royal castle, which today can still be visited, you can take part in a real time travel in approximately one thousand square meters exhibition area. By visiting its historical halls, you can get to know the history of Esztergom Castle and the everyday life of people who once lived here, their fighting skills and tactics, as well as the construction history of the castle. Take courage and step onto the glass floor, where you can walk over the 2000-year-old archaeological layers!

Did you get hungry? At the Mediterraneo Restaurant, located on Primates Island, at the Mária Valéria Bridge, they prepare many delicacies for you! On their multilingual menu, you can find everything from traditional folk dishes to dishes that meet the needs of today’s modern diet. For example, the pork tenderloin roasted on an iron plate or the gypsy steak with garlic are excellent choices if you like Hungarian flavors. Come for a good lunch and then enjoy a delicious dessert!
After eating go for an easy walk down to Széchenyi Square. The main square of Esztergom was originally the market square of the medieval and then the baroque city. Some of the baroque, classicist, and romantic buildings surrounding the square are now used as restaurants, but the Major’s office, the Post office, and the District Court are also located here. In the 19th century, colloquialism called it Holy Trinity square or City Hall square. As a result, the greatest gem of Széchenyi Square is the Trinity statue group made of white limestone, which was built in 1900. Be sure to check them out!
+2 tips: There was a bit of culture, a walk, a delicious lunch. If you are not tired yet, visit the picturesque Búbánatvölgy, studded with idyllic fishing lakes. Next to the Kerek Lake, there is also a newly created Kerektavi Nature House, which awaits you every day from 10 to 17!
